This article descirbes the way people are in arguements. The author makes interseting points throughout but some of the ideas that the author was trying to convince to the audience seemed very opionon based. I will talk about his points and describe what I think of each.
First off is the point that "We're Not Programmed to Seek "Truth," We're Programmed to "Win"". This idea is very wrong for many people including myself, were if you show me proof then I will believe the other person. I do know one or two people that will argue with you even if you shoe them facts. This point was half and half realistic for me.
Next is "Our Brains Don't Understand Probability", majority of people know the risk that certain things are, like winning the lottery or having a baby. Of course there is a higher chance of having a baby then winning the lottery but it still happens. This point is not very realistic and completely disagree with it.
Third is "We Think Everyone's Out to Get Us", I have to say im in the middle on this point. I feel that sometimes this could be true like for people in high places or even among coworkers, but sometimes that might be a little crazy thinking that everyone is out to get you.
Then is "We're Hard-Wired to Have a Double Standard", this one is true the examples that they gave us about drinking alcohol and smoking was great. I would have to agree with this point.
Lastly is "Facts Don't Change Our Minds", I completely disagree with this point. The author thinks that everyone is dumb and we can not change our minds. People change their minds all the time, and facts only make people want to go the winning side of the arguement.
Overall this article was a fun read, I had a few chuckles at the "facts" that the author gave us. I would recommend this article to that friend that always wants to prove you wrong or has something to say.
